12 Qualities of an Influential Person

Everyone should strive to be an influential individual. When you are influential, you have more control over your life, your finances and how you are treated and your statements hold more weight with your listeners. Some people claim that all you have to do is have money and you will be influential, but that is not true. Yes, people listen to someone with a lot of money more than they will to someone who only has a few dollars to their name, but money alone does not make you influential.

Truly influential people have the following characteristics.

1. They have integrity. Their word is their bond. When they say that they will do something, they always follow through with it. They don’t steal or cheat.

2. They have an optimistic attitude. They always think a glass is half full and that everything is possible.

3. Excellence is their password. Everything they do is done to the best of their ability. They never settle for second best in any aspect of their life or behaviour.

4. They are decisive. They know what they want and they make decisions quickly.

5. They are goal setters. Quick decisions are followed by setting a goal to ensure that the necessary steps are in place to reach the desired result.

6. They make a commitment to everything they do. They commit to work harder at everything they attempt and never give up.

7. They set priorities. They ensure that an important thing is handled first and a less important thing is done later.

8. They are very good with relationships. They are loyal to their friends and family and fair to everyone they encounter.

9. They are full of self confidence. There is no doubt in them about their capabilities because they know that they can handle anything life throws at them.

10. They practice good time management. They ensure that time is not wasted on frivolous things and that important things get the time that they deserve.

11. They show gratitude for what they have and generosity to those in need.

12. They are self motivated. They do not need any outside influence to motivate any of their actions as they have the ability to provide all the motivation they need to accomplish any task.

If you can master these twelve characteristics you will be amazed at how influential you become in all facets of your life. Pick one of these traits and practice it daily until it becomes second nature to you. When you have mastered it, go on to the next one. Yes, it will take time to master them all, but think of the future you will have when you do. The sooner you start, the sooner you will become the master of your destiny.

The Benefits of Chemical Peels

Chemical peels can be done on the face, neck, or hands. They can be used to:

  • Reduce fine lines under the eyes and around the mouth
  • Treat wrinkles caused by sun damage and aging
  • Improve the appearance of mild scars
  • Treat certain types of acne
  • Reduce age spots, freckles, and dark patches (melasma) due to pregnancy or taking birth control pills
  • Improve the look and feel of skin

Areas of sun damage may improve after chemical peeling.

After a chemical peel, skin is temporarily more sensitive to the sun, so wear sunscreen every day. It should say “broad-spectrum” on the label, meaning it protects against the sun’s UVA and UVB rays.

Generally, fair-skinned and light-haired patients are better candidates for chemical peels. If you have darker skin, you may also have good results, depending upon the type of problem being treated. But you also may be more likely to have an uneven skin tone after the procedure.

Skin sags, bulges, and more severe wrinkles do not respond well to chemical peels. 50 Ways to Lose Weight

REACHING YOUR FAT-LOSS GOALS may be easier than you think. To lose a pound of fat a month, all you need to do is cut 100 calories a day from your diet, assuming the intake and expenditure of all other calories remains the same. That’s because a pound of body fat is equivalent to about 3,500 calories. So if you cut 100 calories a day for 31 days, you’re cutting 3,100 calories–or about a pound.

Wait…a pound a month? Isn’t that a little slow? Well, mounds of research indicate that you’re more likely to keep weight off if you lose it slowly. Besides, losing a pound a month doesn’t require drastic changes in your eating habits. It can be as simple as eating two egg rolls with your Chinese stir-fry instead of three. Here are 100 painless ways to cut 100 or more calories a day. As a bonus, they all reduce fat or sugar, which means, calorie for calorie, you’re getting more vitamins and minerals.

1. Spread 1 tablespoon of all-fruit jam on your toast rather than 1 1/2 tablespoons of butter.

2. Replace 1 cup of whole milk with 1/2 cup of nonfat milk.

3. Eat 2 poached eggs instead of 2 fried eggs.

4. Replace 1/2 cup of granola with 2 cups of Cheerios.

5. Instead of using whole milk and eggs to prepare 2 slices of French toast, use nonfat milk and egg whites.

6. Snack on an orange and a banana instead of a Snickers candy bar.

7. Munch on 35 pretzel sticks instead of 1 ounce of dry-roasted peanuts.

8. Replace 1 cup of sweetened applesauce with 1 cup of unsweetened applesauce.

9. On your lamb-and-vegetable kabob, replace 2 of the 4 chunks of meat with fresh whole mushrooms.

10. Dip an artichoke in 1 tablespoon of low-fat mayonnaise instead of 1 1/2 tablespoons of regular mayonnaise.

11. Steam your asparagus rather than saut�t in 1 tablespoon of butter or oil.

12. Instead of a 5-ounce glass of wine, opt for cherry-flavored sparkling water.

13. For a chewy snack, have 1/2 cup of dried fruit rather than 9 caramels.

14. Replace 3 slices of bacon with 3 slices of Light & Lean Canadian bacon.

15. Eat a Lender’s egg bagel instead of a Sara Lee egg bagel.

16. Select 1 cup of home-style baked beans instead of an equal serving of baked beans with franks.

17. Replace 2 biscuits with 2 dinner rolls.

18. When making a sandwich, use 2 slices of Roman Light 7-grain bread instead of Pepperidge Farm wheat bread.

19. Eat 1/2 cup of steamed fresh broccoli instead of 1/2 cup of frozen broccoli in cheese sauce.

20. Make a burrito with 1/2 cup of fat-free refried beans and 1 ounce of nonfat cheese instead of the same amount of traditional refried beans and cheese.

21. Replace an apple muffin with a high-fiber English muffin.

22. Reduce a typical serving of chocolate cake (1/8 of a two-layer cake) by one-third.

23. Switch from 1 cup of whole-milk hot chocolate to 1 cup of steamed 1% milk flavored with a dash of almond extract.

24. Replace 1 cup of caramel-coated popcorn with 2 1/2 cups of air-popped popcorn.

25. Switch from 1/2 cup of yogurt-covered raisins to 1/2 cup of plain raisins.

26. Snack on 1 cup of nonfat plain yogurt instead of 1 cup of custard-style yogurt.

27. Top your celery sticks with 2 tablespoons of fat-free cream cheese instead of 3 tablespoons of regular cream cheese.

28. Replace 2 fried-chicken drumsticks with 2 roasted drumsticks and a cup of peas and carrots.

29. Instead of eating 5 chocolate-chip cookies, savor the taste of 2.

30. Lighten your 2 cups of coffee with 2 tablespoons of evaporated nonfat milk instead of 2 tablespoons of half-and-half.

31. Replace a 12-ounce can of cola with a 12-ounce can of diet cola.

32. Thicken your cream sauce with 1 percent milk and corn starch instead of a roux of butter and flour.

33. At the appetizer tray, choose 4 fresh raw mushrooms instead of 4 batter-fried mushrooms.

34. Use 2 tablespoons of fat-free sour cream instead of regular sour cream (on baked potatoes or in stroganoff). If done twice in the day, 100 calories will be cut.

35. Reduce the size of your steak from 4 1/2 ounces to 3 ounces.

36. Grill a cheese sandwich with nonstick cooking spray instead of margarine.

37. Replace 1 cup of chocolate ice cream with 2/3 cup of nonfat chocolate frozen yogurt.

38. Snack on 2 ounces of oven-baked potato chips instead of regular potato chips.

39. Instead of topping your salad with an ounce of croutons, get your crunch from 1/4 cup of chopped celery.

40. Instead of 1 cup of macaroni salad, eat 3 1/2 cups of spinach salad with 2 tablespoons of low-calorie dressing.

41. Cut the peanut butter on your sandwich from 2 tablespoons to 1 tablespoon.

42. Serve your turkey with 1/4 cup of cranberry sauce instead of 1/2 cup.

43. Order a sandwich on cracked wheat bread instead of a croissant.

44. Complement your hamburger with 1 1/4 ounces of oven-baked tortilla chips instead of a side of fries.

45. Split an apple Danish with a friend rather than eat the entire thing.

46. Order 2 slices of cheese pizza instead of 2 slices of pepperoni pizza.

47. Grab a Dole Fresh Lites Cherry frozen fruit bar instead of a Sunkist Coconut frozen fruit bar.

48. Snack on 1/2 cup of fruit cocktail canned in water instead of 1 cup of fruit cocktail canned in heavy syrup.

49. Switch from 1 cup of fruit punch to 1 cup of sparkling water flavored with 2 teaspoons of concentrated orange juice.

50. Instead of eating garlic bread made with butter, spread baked garlic cloves on French bread.

About Brazilian Waxing

It’s for Women and Men
For women, Brazilian waxing generally means complete hair removal around the whole female genital area including the anus and perineum although there is an option to leave a small amount of hair about 2 or 3 fingers wide above the vaginal area. Brazilian Waxing for men is means removal of all hair around the male genital area and can also include removal of hair from the testicles to the anus.

How much Does Brazilian Waxing Cost?
Our price begins at $65.00 unless there is an extraorinary amount of hair. Please read the next section.

How to Prepare for Brazilian Waxing
Allow your hair to grow for at least two weeks before going for a Brazilian waxing treatment then trim hair short (about a quarter of an inch to half an inch at most). Shorter hair is easier and more comfortable to remove than long hair but there does have to be some hair there for the wax to grip.

Ensure that the area is clean before your appointment either by showering or (if you don’t have time for that) by thorough cleaning with baby wipes or simple soap and water. We provide disposable underwear  or you can wear your own   or go completely bare.

How Long Does a Brazilian Waxing Session Take?
A session takes about 30 to 45 mintues. The initial session will probably take longest with each subsequent session taking a little less time as hair becomes easier to remove.

What Happens in a Brazilian Waxing Session?
You will be asked to removeyour underwear, then lie down. The you will be asked to raise your legs and we may sprinkle the area with talc to ensure that the skin is dry. Then we use a spatula to spread a thin layer of hot wax on one area at a time removing the wax by pressing down with a cotton strip, holding the skin taut and pulling in one short sharp pull against the direction of hair growth. Of course, in this area you are pretty exposed and have to be OK with being handled in some pretty strange ways. Men are expected to help keep their own skin taut.

The pubic area is often very sensitive and can be uncomfortable to wax although different people experience different levels of discomfort with it. The discomfort can continue for a while afterwards too. Sometimes a cold compress can help afterwards and be sure not to wear tight fitting underwear or clothes to your appointment. You can reduce pain a little by taking an over the counter pain relief medication a hour or so before your treatment and/or you can apply numbing cream a half hour before your appointment, which we sell in our studio and at our online store.

How Long Does it Take for the Skin to Recover after Brazilian Waxing?
It will probably take a day or two after removing hair for the skin to settle down and for any redness and bumps to disappear. After that you should start to gently exfoliate the outer area to avoid any ingrown hairs. We also sell products to help with aftercare.

How Long will the Area Stay Free of Unwanted Hair after Brazilian Waxing?
Anything from two to eight weeks depending on the rate of growth of the unwanted hair. Of course you will need some regrowth if you want to go for waxing again so that the wax has something to grip. This probably means at least a month or so between sessions although you may have to tweeze the odd hair here and there. Fortunately follow-up sessions are generally less painful and shorter than the first session. That’s because regrowth is generally weaker and you know what to expect and are less anxious about the whole process.

How do you who to do your Brazilian?
Sometimes the best way is to find out who your friends go to, though not everybody is willing to admit they do Brazilians, despite it being quite common.  If you don’t know anyone to refer you, give a spa a call and talk to the person who does the waxing. Ask about their training. Is she or he an sesthetician? Does she or he seem patient, ask you questions that help make you comfortable, and so on.  If the wax technician is unsure and hesitant Brazilian waxing can be very painful indeed. You have to feel comfortable with the technician because you will be pretty exposed and the technician has to touch you in some very intimate places to complete the waxing procedure. It’s important that the spa and technician have good standards of hygiene too – you definitely do not want a pot of wax which has been used as a hair remover for other people being reused on you especially in the pubic area – so you may want to ask about that when you first enquire too.

Is it Feasible to do Brazilian Waxing at Home?
I would not recommend you do this at home. You have to be pretty handy with a mirror and a contortionist to boot to even see the excess hair you want to remove. And it takes a whole heap of courage to peel off those strips. Some people have had success though by having an initial session in a salon and then keeping the area hair free using an epilator. The epliator grips shorter hairs than wax so you can keep the area smoother than with regular visits to the spa.

Myths and Facts About Psoriasis

Understanding psoriasis may be very helpful in effectively treating the symptoms associated with the condition. There are several myths surrounding psoriasis and separating fact from fiction can be an eye-opening experience and may help those suffering from the condition better cope with psoriasis.

Is it Contagious?

No. Psoriasis is not a contagious disease. The exact cause of psoriasis is not fully understood, although malfunctioning T-cells in the body lead to the buildup of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. These appear as red patches on the skin with silvery scales over them. Touching these scales or passing bodily fluids does not spread the disease.

Psoriasis Affects Only the Skin

False. This is actually a problem with the immune system, as T-cells that are supposed to only attack bacteria and viruses target healthy cells as well. This leads to the buildup of dead skin cells, as new skin cells move to the surface of the skin too quickly. The result is the scaly appearance of psoriasis.

Psoriasis is Not Curable

This is true. While treatments exist that may help to reduce the symptoms of psoriasis, there is no known cure for the disease.

Psoriasis is Due to Poor Hygiene

False. Psoriasis is due to a problem with the immune system and is not caused by poor hygiene. Weather, stress, obesity and smoking are common triggers of psoriasis, but hygiene has not been linked to the disease. If you have heard other myths that you would like to be confirmed or debunked, talk to a licensed physician or skincare professional. This is the best resource for information about psoriasis and other skin conditions.

The Dangers of Double Dipping

The Double Dip

Those infamous wooden spatulas are disposable for good reason. Once they’re dipped into the wax and the wax is spread onto your skin, they should be tossed, and a new spatula should be used for each subsequent dip. Why? Wax is only heated to a temperature just above 40°, which isn’t hot enough to kill bacteria or viruses, any hotter would scald you. Once the spatula touches skin, dipping it back into the wax can potentially pass bacteria along with it. Now I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to come in contact with anything that’s touched a stranger’s anything.
We all assume the worst thing we could leave a salon with would be misshapen eyebrows, badly painted nails or an un-even bikini line. However, the health risks associated with the beauty industry include viral infections such as HIV, Hepatitis B and C, and warts, as well as, conjunctivitis, bacterial and fungal infections.
