Waxing Tips

29 Mar

  1. Hair Should be between 1/4 and 1/2 inch long. If it is shorter the wax will not adhere to the hair. If it is longer it is more uncomfortable. Longer hair can be trimmed in necessary. If you shaved the time to wait is about two weeks., five weeks between waxes.
  2. Take a couple Advil prior to your wax. Also a numbing cream can be purchased prior to your wax and used 30 to 40 min before the wax for additional comfort.
  3. After your wax do not engage in activities like jogging for 24 hours. Sweat and heat can irritate newly waxed skin. Swimming or hot tub use is not advised for the first 24 hours after a wax.
  4. Starting the day after your wax exfoliate the area with a mild scrub. Do this daily until your next wax.
  5. Do not use lotions or washes with heavy perfumes right after a wax.
  6. If you still suffer from ingrown a roll on treatment can be purchased to treat this.
  7. Pre book your next wax for five weeks. This will ensure you are getting all your hair on a similar growth cycle and that the hair is at the optimal length for the most comfortable wax.

We Have Moved

7 Sep

On September 4th we  relocated to the historical church area in the heart of little Italy,  in a modern, cozy main floor space, with lots of free parking. New address: 10870 96 Street,Edmonton T5H  2K1. Phone numbers stay the same. See top of our banner for phone number.

We love our new place. Where we were before was not being kept up by the owner and so we decided you deserved a better place for us to serve our customers.

Here are some photos!

The Dangers of Double Dipping

26 Feb

The Double Dip

Those infamous wooden spatulas are disposable for good reason. Once they’re dipped into the wax and the wax is spread onto your skin, they should be tossed, and a new spatula should be used for each subsequent dip. Why? Wax is only heated to a temperature just above 40°, which isn’t hot enough to kill bacteria or viruses, any hotter would scald you. Once the spatula touches skin, dipping it back into the wax can potentially pass bacteria along with it. Now I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to come in contact with anything that’s touched a stranger’s anything.

We all assume the worst thing we could leave a salon with would be misshapen eyebrows, badly painted nails or an un-even bikini line. However, the health risks associated with the beauty industry include viral infections such as HIV, Hepatitis B and C, and warts, as well as, conjunctivitis, bacterial and fungal infections.

At Off Whyte Skin Care Studio we use a fresh stick each and EVERY time without exception!
